UX/ UI Case Study
Product Design

Project type:
UX case study
My Role:
Design challenge from mentor
Date:
May 2022
Overview
I was tasked with creating a listing flow for an app that is the Airbnb for RV rentals. The goal of the site was to incentivize RV owners to list their vehicles and generate additional income.
Outdoorsy Onboarding Experience

Cruise America Website

The challenge
Onboarding experiences can be lengthy, and dissuade a user from finishing their profile to start using the product. How do you keep the user's interest long enough to get them to finish creating their account and place them into a dashboard experience?
Key Ideas
Create an appealing entrance to get user started
Collect data via questionnaire to provide an estimate on potential earnings.
Place them into a dashboard experience where they can further edit their listing.
The solution
Incentivize users to create an account without hesitation, followed by a quick questionnaire, leading to the main dashboard where they use the product. Minimize the amount of initial steps needed to be taken before users get to a dashboard.

Research
Users often leave Web pages in 10–20 seconds, but pages with a clear value proposition can hold people's attention for much longer. To gain several minutes of user attention, you must clearly communicate your value proposition within 10 seconds.
"The typical RV owner is 48 years old, married, and has an above-average annual household income of $62,000. RV owners are likely to own their homes and spend an average of 3-4 weeks annually, industry research shows."
Data from Ipsos from June 2020 showed that 46 million Americans planned on taking an RV trip in the next 12 months
The recent surge in RV rentals are fueled by people who see RVs as a way to experience freedom, control, and fun.
The results
Users are incentivized by the amount of money they could be making. Having a large, quick grab statement with a bold colored CTA makes the decision of signing up obvious.
The first 10-20 seconds someone enters a website are most critical. The onboarding process is quick and only asks basic questions to get enough information for an estimate. The rest can be added in the dashboard.
Adding testimonials and being able to read other's stories who have rented their RV's, creates a sense of community and security.
Once the user enters the dashboard, they are able to add or edit information about the listing, along with seeing relevant information pertaining to that listing such as guest bookings.
